How to Read the Bible

Whether at university, church, or somewhere else, I am often asked “How should I read the Bible?”.  That is a great question, and one of my most common responses is, “Read it in big chunks”.  The Bible needs to read as it was written.  I’ll often give an analogy about receiving a letter from a long-lost friend – we would never read a paragraph a day, but instead, we would read it from beginning to end, so that we fully understand and experience it.  If possible, scripture should be read the same way.

New Testament scholar and author NT Wright was asked the same question, and in his response he referred to the “sweep of scripture” and compared reading the Bible to listening to a symphony.  Watch and listen to this video to hear what he has to say:
